Aromatic with vibrant and expressive red fruit flavors and subtle oak. Full expression of Tempranillo, Rioja's classic varietal.
The Tempranillo for this wine comes from the area of Rioja Alta, in the vicinity of Haro. In this area, strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, with its predominantly chalky clay soils, Tempranillo grapes display their full splendor. The varietal achieves optimum maturation, characterized by floral aromas of violets, fresh acidity, and round tannins.
Cold pre-maceration and fermentation at lower temperatures of 75ºF /24ºC together with approximately two weeks of maceration aim to fully extract the fruit character. Without adhering to a specific protocol for barrel aging, Viña Zaco remains in new American oak for six to twelve months, enabling Winemaker Alejandro López to bottle the wine at its ideal time. The 2014 vintage spent 6 months in barrel.
“You could say rebellious, it does not follow the rules.
We cannot classify it as Crianza or Reserva- we simply bottle it when we believe that the expression of the grape is at its optimum level.”Alejandro López

Viña Zaco Tempranillo has been recognized and acclaimed by some of the most prestigious wine publications and competitions.
Considered native to Rioja, Tempranillo displays great balance and intensity of flavors and aromas. In Rioja Alta, the climate is mainly Atlantic while the soils are chalky-clay which is ideal for Tempranillo. This happens to be the birthplace of Viña Zaco Tempranillo.
This is the best-known Spanish red grape variety worldwide. The name Tempranillo comes from the grape’s early maturation and, when properly cultivated, it produces a red wine with significant levels of polyphenols and an unmistakable aroma of berries and licorice, ideal for aging. Growing techniques, reasonable production levels and appropriate choice of clones are key to obtaining quality wines from this variety of grape. Tempranillo is the most emblematic variety of Rioja grape.
An expression of Tempranillo with its own distinctive personality and unmistakable varietal traits
